Cyclists Vs Motorists

For those of you who live in Melbourne it is an issue that is in the news more often than not!
A collision / dooring or road rage incident between a cyclist and a motorist which is so not surprising when you look at the FACTS:

From the motorist view:

• Cyclists are slow which hold up traffic
• Many of them fail to obey the road rules
• You can not hear them
• Even when you look half the time you don't see them
• Even when you safely pass them, they go and sit in front of you at the next stop sign or set of lights
• They act like they own the road. 

From the cyclist view:

• Motorist don't give you enough space on the road
• They don't look before turning at intersections 
• They move over and almost knock you off
• They just open doors without looking
• They beep your horns and abuse us for no reason

The reality is no matter which side of the argument you are on, when there is an accident the cyclist comes of worse and in some cases it ends tragically! 

In my opinion the fact is that motor vehicles and cyclists SHOULD NOT share the same road without  a physical barrier between them!

All the law's, fines, finger pointing and government enquiries is not going to prevent one accident, do what is going to fix the problem separate vehicles from cyclist with physical barriers and stop the frustration on both sides and put an end to cyclists ending up injured or as statistics.
